Pilot sites

|
The diversity of the sites and the issues involved necessitates a diversified policy for local development projects in the field.
|
Since it was founded, VNF has striven to implement a global strategy for the enhancement of the areas entrusted to it by the State.
Very early on, it became clear that VNF's actions in this field were in synch with those of many private and public partners, and that it was usually a question of creating synergies by pooling resources.
From 1996 onwards, VNF set itself specific goals through the determination of 6 strategic sites with high development potential: these were called "pilot sites".
The identification of these pilot sites was the result of an analysis made in 1996 by the firm EURO WATERWAYS on behalf of VNF. Besides identifying the potential of each of these sites, the analysis by EURO WATERWAYS also identified the economic impacts expected by VNF and its partners, as well as the challenges to be faced to reach the enhancement goal that had been set. The sites in question are as follows:
LYON - PORT RAMBAUD on the Saône (construction in progress),
BEZIERS - CHAIN OF LOCKS AT FONSERANES on the canal du Midi,
SAINT JEAN DE LOSNE - DOCK HANGER at the junction between the Saône and the canal de Bourgogne (for more information contact the management of Rhône Saône ADVE),
PARIS - PORT DES CHAMPS ELYSEES on the right bank of the Seine (for more information contact the management of the Seine basin SDAD),
BRIARE - LE PONT CANAL on the canal de Briare and the side canal at the Loire,
LILLE - CITADELLE the old Deûle and the large gauge canal between the Bois Blancs and the Madeleine (for more information contact the management of Nord-Pas de Calais),
The pilot sites have each been subject to distinctly separate approaches. The first investments for identifying the sites were financed by VNF and its partners.
